Ant,
There is a European dude who has created a small peice of software that removes the WGA. The WGA contacts Microsoft frequently for some reason I can't remember so it could be these connections crapping out your machine. http://www.firewallleaktester.com/removewga.htm After thinking I looked up the article and here is a link to his page. Doesn't remove WGA but shuts of the contacting of the outside world. |

Yes this is most definitely some fucked up shit.
I keep hearing lately they're going to take it a step further and that sometime in the fall a 30 day grace period will startup, after which windows just stops working on any machines that haven't gotten "Genuine(tm)". Asshats. Oh, and I really wouldn't worry too much about them actually taking anything, people would see a trend in the network traffic if they started pulling something like that. |

Sup anthony...
Check your event log, to see what is happening when the computer locks/reboots. Might be something other than the WGA.. does it happen also if the computer is disconnected from the internet? |

I'd say clear all the logs, and run the computer until it crashes again. Then once you get back in there, check the log for the latest error.
Post the error code (ie eventid:816) in here, and we can help you out. ![]() |

As far as I can understand, you might have a service that tries to start up and fails, therefore crashing the computer. That might help you resolve the issue, though how it might've risen in the first place eludes me... Any recent program installed that might've done that? (rootkits and firewalls and some anti-virus block some portions of the system, sometimes causing improbable but computer freezing problems) |

thanks for the info chrys.. i'll check it out as soon as i can... ![]() as far as i can remember... it has been doing this ever since i had it.. i've wiped everything clean and started from scratch but it continues to do it... TMobile thinks it has something to do with the sledge hammer smashing the case that might be the primary reason for the problems... ![]() |

Maybe she's runnin hot... If we are talkin bout a woman, good to go. A pc? not so good..
If the .net shit didnt fixer, you could always try to run "sfc /scannow" from the run prompt. It'll verify and replace (if necessary) your system files. Make sure you have your xp cd handy before you start. I'm wondering also about overheating or an underpowered PSU. If it's overheating it'll be fine until you start working the pc hard, then it'll crash. Usually locks up, but you can get odd errors. If you have a bad/dying/underpowered PSU (power supply) you can get all kinds of flaky behavior goin on. Fucking PCs.. power down, disconnect your CD/dvd drives (if you have any) and see if that stabilizes it. If it's done this since day 1 I'd say this is possible. Gotta get this shit fixed man.. I got like a dozen 700+mb vids for you! |

i unplugged the drives and it still crashed... ![]() several times this time... got a category 102 error event 1003 several times... then followed by a 7000 error several times... then followed by another category 102 event 1003 error... then followed again by that 7000 error.. and finally that cute little puppy came out, walked right up to the edge of the screen, and then took a huge dump and then trotted off.... i wonder what that means... ![]() ![]() |

You know what I just thought..
If it didnt lock at the shop, but does at home, it could be a power issue. Poor/flaky power outlet can give a psu a shitfit.. and when psu's go haywire, they take hardware with them. Try a different cord/powerbar/outlet maybe..? If the problem is fixed, let me know! I have a dozen movies to send you (700mb+) Crux wont touch them. |

it's plugged into a dedicated line so it's the only thing drawing power... has a surge protecter ( yeah.. right...) and back-up UPS... i did notice just before it died that when i went to power it up.. i got a static charge that jumped from me to the power button.... or from the power button to me... either way it was a charge.. then there was a whirring.. a pop... a grinding noise... more whirring.. more popping... ( like popcorn popping) then smoke and then silence.... the beast was finally dead.... ![]() |
